SUSTAINABILITY

Where does your cashmere come from?

All our cashmere comes from Inner Mongolia. Arbas and Alishan goats are naturally white so the yarn doesn’t need to be bleached, adding to the quality. The grasslands in Inner Mongolia are particularly good for goats; the grasses are particularly nutritious and in winter, the extreme cold encourages an extra growth of fur which gets combed out come spring. That’s the highest quality goat hair you can find and makes our knitwear more smooth and longlasting.

How do you make sure your cashmere is ethical?

Every brand claims to make ethical cashmere and there are a ton of certifications that back up their claims. Our view is you don’t know unless you go and check. So we did. Inner Mongolia was full of surprises, including the way that goats are cared for (very well) and how science has been applied both to the welfare of the goats and the sustainability of the land. The government overseeing Inner Mongolian cashmere recognises the value and importance of maintaining the goats and the grasslands.

Will my cashmere pill?

Yes but it’s designed not to. While the yarn is getting comfortable, there will be a few stray hairs that will ball up and pill. We use Grade A cashmere - the longest and finest available which has been superspun and knitted compactly, in order to reduce pilling. We hate pilling as much as you do hence we saw the need to factor that into our processing in order for our jumpers to last longer.

How can I look after my cashmere?

Don’t overwash it. Don’t leave it out in the sun. Don’t dry it with direct heat. When you do handwash it, be gentle, use a pea-sized amount of baby shampoo and rinse well. Dry it flat and iron it with a cool iron. Store your sweater during the summer in its ziplock bag in the freezer, to kill off any moths with ideas.
