LOVE YOUR CASHMERE,

LONGER
When you return your Baker Miller Pink jumper back to us – hopefully in a few year’s time, once you’ve worn it to death – we will recycle it into fresh new yarn. Recycled yarn is hard to find and expensive. It wasn’t until I tried to do recycling myself that I discovered that most cashmere sweaters contain polyester, even if it states on the label that it’s 100% cashmere. Elastane gets knitted into the cuffs and rib, to give extra spring, and the seams are sewn up with polyester thread. This is an industry norm. So most cashmere sweaters have to have the seams and ribs removed before they can go through the recycling process. (You can’t have any synthetics in the mix). This of course adds to the rarity and cost.
We hope that by refusing to use polyester AT ALL in our Baker Miller Pink sweaters, we can reset the industry standard and encourage other brands to think about recycling before they begin creating. All brands need to consider the entire life cycle of each garment they create in order that we don’t contribute to landfill. This is not a ‘nice to have’, this is necessary. A new law demanding that suppliers take responsibility for their waste was passed through the European Parliament in July 25.
